The Asbestos Abatement Worker program prepares participants to work safely and productively on asbestos abatement projects involving direct, intentional contact with ACM. It is designed to meet or exceed OSHA and EPA training requirements under 29 CFR 1926.1101 and 40 CFR Part 763.
Workers receive extensive instruction and hands-on training in work area preparation, decontamination facility construction and use, abatement techniques, cleanup, and proper handling and disposal of asbestos waste — with strong emphasis on developing safe work habits that carry from the classroom to the jobsite.

Required for anyone with direct, intentional contact with asbestos-containing materials — including removal, encapsulation, enclosure, and demolition of ACM under Class I and Class II work.
Aligned with the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan.
Training for asbestos professionals is required under the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan (MAP), issued under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) and amended by ASHARA (1990). The MAP requires trained and accredited asbestos professionals when conducting inspections or response actions in schools and public and commercial buildings.
The MAP establishes five required training disciplines — Worker, Contractor/Supervisor, Inspector, Management Planner, and Project Designer — plus a recommended Project Monitor discipline. This course satisfies the Worker discipline at the initial 32-hour level.
Under the EPA MAP and 29 CFR 1926.1101, abatement worker training must include classroom instruction and a series of hands-on exercises covering work area preparation, decontamination, respirator use and fit-testing, abatement techniques, and the proper handling and disposal of asbestos waste.
