Federal OSHA requires specific training for workers performing cleanup, remediation, or related work at hazardous waste sites. This 24-hour course provides the off-site instruction required under 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(iii) for workers regularly on site in fully characterized areas where exposures are under permissible limits, respirators are not necessary, and no health hazards or emergency potential exists.

This course provides the 24-hour off-site instruction required under the federal OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard. The regulation applies to workers at cleanup operations, RCRA sites, and other hazardous waste operations covered by 29 CFR 1910.120.
The online training covers the required subject matter for workers in characterized areas where exposures are controlled. However, completing this course alone does not fulfill the complete training requirement. Employers must also provide hands-on training, one day of actual supervised field experience, and site-specific instruction before employees begin work.
Employers operating under an OSHA-approved State Plan should verify whether additional state requirements apply.

Employer Responsibilities Under HAZWOPER
Workers are not authorized to begin hazardous waste work until all training components, including hands-on training and supervised field experience, have been completed.
